Play Summary
Escape from Happiness
Production Information
Escape from Happiness is the darkly comic tale of Nora’s struggle to keep her family afloat amid a sea of manic troubles. Her daughter Gail is pregnant by her live-in boyfriend Junior. He has gotten himself mixed up with a couple of the most loveable and incompetent crooks this side of the Keystone Cops. Of course the police arrive wondering what the wife of a former cop has in those suspicious bags in the basement where she is digging out a spare room for the kids. The husband has moved back in after many years’ absence and Nora’s other two daughters refuse to cross the threshold of her aging east side home until he goes back upstairs. These two women form a duo worthy of Laurel and Hardy and round out a hilarious mix of characters who will delight and infuriate you. (Dark comedy with scenes of violence and strong language not suitable for those under 16 years of age.)
